Lamia

"Mothers beware, summon me and I may eat your children and steal your husbands."

Spirit derives from ancient Greek mythology.

According to the Greeks, Lamia's name derived from her having a large throat or gullet.

Once was a beautiful queen of Libya, Lamia won the desire from Zeus and became one of his companions. In revenge, his wife Hera kills Lamia's children, transforms Lamia into monster, and cursed to feed on children's blood.

Mothers or nannies would use Lamia as a boogeyman to frighten children into good behavior - records dating back in the 1st century.
